Be Active - the Future is Yourself
In the project « Be Active – the Future is Yourself » took participation 4 groups of young people from Lithuania, Italy, Slovakia and Finland. The age of the participants was from 15 to 22 years old. Every group consisted of 4 members + 1 leader of the team. The project was held in Tippsund-camp, 60 km from Turku, 8.-15.8.2013. The participants were given a possibility to educate themselves in various workshops, visited Naantali, Turku and Helsinki and met local youth there, got familiar with Finnish culture and traditions.
Participants of the project made new multinational international groups, planned and questioned young people in Naantali and Turku about their future vision, hopes and goals. All teams were dressed in similar white T-shirts with the name of the project and logos of CIMO, Youth in Action –program, ELY-center and the City of Turku. Teams made pictures and videos. On the base of the collected materials they made presentations and a design for the 2014 calendar.
In the camp were held few workshops – creative writing (participants got some information about how to write and apply for grants if they want to organise some projects and how to write a novel or a book if they would like to, and whats the difference between formal and informal writing), time-management and goalsetting (participants got the outline for goal-setting and were educated how to use it for maping your year and organize different events of your life in a practical way), artworkshops (playing the guitar, singing and dancing). During the week for a visit came a french musician who played Deejaridoo and talked about this unusual music instrument and its history.
The participants also learnt how to plan and performYouth in Action –projects. Experienced groups from Lithuania and Italy worked together with non-experienced young people and were learned by each other. Future project were planned, for example, 2 young people are planning to apply next year for EVS grant for working with Finnish youth in Turku.
Young people organised « national evenings” – every team made one dinner, talked about their and country and national culture and let others to taste their cuisine. During preparation stage young people had asked for permission to prepare own national food in the kitchen and we gave it. The only thing we didn’t give permission to, was alkohol, and young people didn’t use it even during disco in Kupittaa park in Turku.
The participants visited office of CIMO in Helsinki, where we talked about our project and received goode ideas, interesting and useful information about Youth in Action – program’s activity in Finland and worldwide.
By the end of the project we sat in a circle and each participant was given an opportunity to speak freely what did he or she liked about the project and what could be improved in the future.
The results of the project are also reflected in the Internet and social networks. We have a group on Facebook, where everyone uploaded their photos and videos, it is a beautiful collection of all the events.
